Queen of the Farm Cats

“Momma Cat” is the best hunting farm cat we have.  She’s also the oldest, and the mother or grandmother to all the other cats, except our Tom Cat.  She is ALWAYS hunting, even when there is catfood for her to eat.  The kittens all get taken out to hunt one or two at a time, even the grandkittens.  It is so fun to watch her leave with one, off to teach it hunting, and the kitten trotting along behind her while the rest of them watch from the garage.

When she’s close to having kittens, she gets especially friendly, seeking me out and following me around hoping to be cuddled.  If anything ever happens to her, I know we’ll have a mini-boom of mice around here.  Even with the other cats.  Nobody hunts like she does.

  1. I’m about to get two new farm cats to help out. They are both partially tamed males, who will be taken to the vet before they come here. When my farm gets bigger, I look forward to having a female and fertile male too, so as to have kittens. They are all outdoor animals as we have people in the family with allergies, but our weather is warm, and they’ll have their special set-up in the chicken house. My birds are all free range, so the cats will come and go as well, but be fed in the coop, and have a special cat setup with climbing and scratching posts.

This is all so much fun. I’m newly relocated from the Pacific Northwest and really enjoying my new little farm. Beats the Opera high stress performance life!!!

And my horses keep me spiritually happy as well.

Just thought I’d add a bit here.

    Blessings,
    Carol

  2. Hi Carol,
You sound like you have a great setup plan for your cats, they will be spoiled! :)
